St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador visits Indigenous park in Taiwan

St. Christopher and Nevis Ambassador to Taiwan Jasmine Huggins on Friday visited an Indigenous cultural park in southern Taiwan to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Huggins, who has been in the post since 2008, visited the Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park in Pingtung County to experience the customs and traditions of Indigenous peoples in Taiwan.

The ambassador changed into the traditional dress of the Amis People, attended a traditional Indigenous blessing ritual, a sport activity and played a native musical instrument.

She also spoke at a workshop introducing the history and culture of St. Kitts and Nevis.

When asked by reporters what she would like to take back to her country from Taiwan, the ambassador praised the industriousness, kindness and politeness of Taiwanese people.

In addition, she said she wants to take delicious Taiwanese cuisine to St. Kitts and Nevis and also bring back to Taiwan some of her country's cuisine, as well as different ways of using native products to cook Taiwanese food.

Huggins said looking forward, she hopes to have deeper interactions with Indigenous peoples in Taiwan.

This was Huggins' second visit to the park after her first trip last September when she toured the Exhibition of Si Mangavang, a traditional boat built by the Tao People of Orchid Island in 2010 that they rowed around Taiwan the following year.
