Chunghwa Post President S.J. Chen encouraged people to develop an interest in collecting stamps when he appeared at the PHILATAIPEI 2016 World Stamp Championship Exhibition on Monday to honor young collectors.
"Collecting stamps is a common childhood memory and fantastic experience for many adults, and I hope more and more people in Taiwan will take to it and appreciate the beauty a small piece of paper can bring us," Chen said when awarding winners of the 2015 academic year stamp-collecting classroom on the show's fourth day.
Chen awarded four young winners from elementary schools in Kaohsiung, Taichung, Penghu and Keelung who were chosen from among 75 entries for their beautiful and diverse collections of stamps.
Three others won excellence awards and four received honorable mentions.
Chunghwa Post, Taiwan's main postal service, is hosting the fair to celebrate its 120th founding anniversary.
The show, which is showcasing 2,450 philatelic items from exhibitors from 80 countries and areas, runs through Oct. 26 at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1.
