Taichung: Starlux Airlines has announced the commencement of twice-weekly round-trip flights from Taoyuan and Taichung to the Miyako Islands in Japan starting February next year. The new service is set to enhance connectivity between Taiwan and Japan, specifically targeting travelers interested in exploring the scenic Miyako Islands.
According to Focus Taiwan, the flights will operate to Okinawa’s Shimoji Island Airport, with departures from Taichung International Airport scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays, and from Taoyuan International Airport on Mondays and Thursdays. The Taoyuan-Miyako service is set to begin on February 12, followed by the Taichung flights starting on February 13.
Starlux Airlines had previously operated a seasonal service between Taoyuan and Miyako from August 22 to October 24 this year. The airline noted that the Miyako Islands are located about a one-hour flight from Okinawa and are known for their beaches and clear waters.
The islands are also a popular destination for cave diving, offering divers the opportunity to explore extensive coral reefs and observe turtles and numerous fish species, Starlux highlighted.
