Taipei, Nov. 22 (CNA) The weather on election day on the weekend is forecast to be sunny, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Although it is expected to remain cool and wet Thursday and Friday as northeasterly winds become stronger, the weather is expected to be more stable Saturday, the CWB said.
Northern and eastern areas, as well as mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan, are likely to see sporadic showers Thursday, with daily high temperatures dropping 8-9 degrees Celsius from Wednesday to 20-21 degrees, CWB forecaster Yen Tseng-hsi (???) said.
As the northeasterly winds are forecast to weaken, the weather on election day is expected to be sunny, with occasional showers in Yilan County and elsewhere in northeastern Taiwan, Yen said.
The CWB said that a tropical depression has formed in the waters off the Philippines that could turn into the 29th tropical storm this year and is likely to bring rainfall across Taiwan Sunday.
Tropical storm Man-yi was located 2,600 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi on Taiwan's southernmost tip as of 8 a.m. Thursday, moving in a northwesterly direction and unlikely to affect Taiwan directly, Yen added.
