Taiwanese badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying (???) has withdrawn from the Singapore Open due to a strained left hamstring, her father Tai Nan-kai (???) said Wednesday.
Tai suffered a hamstring strain and to prevent the injury from getting worse she decided to withdraw from the tournament in Singapore, in the hope of a quick recovery from the injury after nearly a week of treatment and recuperation, so she will be able to compete at the Taipei Open, her father said.
If she recovers well from her injury, Tai should still be able to take part in the Taipei Open scheduled to take place from July 19-24, her father added.
However, he noted that as Tai has played in a series of tournaments recently, she has been able to rest very little.
The announcement came after Tai, the world No. 2, sailed into the second round of the woman’s singles on the second day of the Singapore Open earlier Wednesday, beating compatriot Pai Yu-po (???) in two straight games 21-17, 21-16, in a match that lasted 29 minutes.
In addition to Tai, world No. 8 Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand also withdrew from the Singapore Open on Wednesday due to an injury, after taking an 11-9 lead over Sung Shuo-yun (???) from Taiwan in the opener during the first round.
