Taipei, The Taichung MRT's Green Line is in the final stages of system integration adjustment in areas such as electricity supply and engineering facilities, with test runs starting Wednesday, according to transport officials.
The trial runs take place between 6 a.m. and midnight every day on the 16.71km line, to ensure that the system is stable ahead of planned commercial operations in 2020, said Yeh Chaofu head of the city's transportation bureau.
The test runs are also expected to give officials an idea about how much noise the trains will generate so that they can install a total of 11 km of sound barriers properly, Yeh said.
The line, construction of which started in 2009, connects major transportation hubs and neighborhoods in the city, including the Taichung High Speed Railway Station, Taichung City Hall and Wenxin Forest Park.
There are 18 stations on the line, which were 84.23percent completed as of the end of May, according to the bureau.
