Taipei, In a bid to crack down on criminal activity, police in Taichung have introduced their first camera drone and are using it to improve public order in the central Taiwan city, a local police officer said Wednesday.
The hightech device was employed for the first time on Tuesday to take surveillance photographs and help monitor the situation as about 60 police officers inspected KTV barber shops, KTV parlors and bars in Wuqi District, said Chen Yungchang chief of Taichung City Police Department's Qingshui Precinct.
The drone, operated by an expert, observed operations from 60 meters above the premises while police checked the identities of customers on the spot, Chen explained.
Any suspicious individuals or vehicles seeking to leave the area were detained by the police officers who were informed of those people's attempts to leave by the drone operator, Chen said.
