Tainan City police said on Wednesday they arrested eight Indonesian women a day earlier who claimed they left their jobs as caregivers because they were unhappy with the employment conditions and wanted to go home.
The city's second police precinct received a tip-off about several foreign female workers living in a sheet metal house in the city's western district.
After an investigation, police identified eight women living in the building, all in their 20's or 30's, who were originally employed in Taoyuan, Taichung and Tainan.
The women told police they could not get used to the long hours as caregivers and said the pay was not as good as they had expected. They all indicated a desire to return to Indonesia and never come back to Taiwan.
Police said they suspect the women, who have since been turned over to the immigration authorities, received assistance from a third party and the investigation continues.
