Taipei--About 1,100 passengers were evacuated Wednesday from a Taipei MRT train after white smoke billowed through the train's cars, according to the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. (TRTC).
The incident occurred at about 8 a.m. when the Blue Line train was at Longshan Temple Station on its way to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station, according to the company.
The company's control center evacuated the passengers according to standard operating procedures and arranged for them to take the next train.
It took the company about three minutes to deal with the situation, including making a few adjustments to its train scheduling, to return system operations to normal during the morning rush hour.
TRTC is still investigating the cause of the smoke.
