Nagoya:Taiwanese sharpshooter Lee Meng-yuan captured a bronze medal in the men's skeet event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking a historic achievement as the first Taiwanese athlete to medal in this event at the Asian Games.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lee, 32, secured the bronze with 29 hits, trailing behind Qatar's Rashid Saleh Al-Athba, who won gold with an Asian record of 34 hits, and China's Lyu Jianlin, who took silver with 33 hits. In addition to Lee's performance, the Taiwanese gymnasts Tang Chia-hung, Hung Yuan-hsi, Chuang Chia-lung, Lee Chih-kai, and Shiao Yu-jan earned a bronze medal in the men's artistic gymnastics team event, placing behind China and Japan, who won gold and silver, respectively.

Lee Meng-yuan also made a mark at the Paris Olympics, winning bronze in men's skeet, becoming the first Taiwanese athlete to earn an Olympic medal in shooting. He previously secured a bronze in the mixed team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Lee expressed his desire to dedicate his medal to his late father, Hsieh Chih-pei, who coached him until his passing in 2025, stating, "I believed my father was watching me during the match."

Taiwan's gymnastics team repeated their success from the previous Asian Games, winning bronze in the men's artistic gymnastics team event for the second consecutive time. Team coach Lin Yu-hsin acknowledged the pressure the gymnasts faced to secure another medal at this year's games and praised veterans Lee and Tang for their leadership in guiding their younger teammates to victory.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Team Taiwan, competing under the name Chinese Taipei, had accumulated a total of 12 medals at the Asian Games, comprising one gold in soft tennis mixed doubles, three silvers, and eight bronzes.
