Taiwan adds 200,000 doses to government-funded flu vaccine program

Taiwan’s government has purchased an extra 200,000 seasonal influenza vaccine doses to meet higher-than-expected demand, Centers for Disease Control Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said Tuesday.
The government-funded vaccines have been distributed to local public health centers and offices nationwide, Chuang told a Central Epidemic Command Center press conference.
Chuang said 84 percent of the 6.29 million doses initially provided through the government’s 2022-2023 flu vaccination program had already been used.
With the additional 200,000 doses, around 1.04 million doses remain available, Chuang added.
Despite a drop in related illnesses, Chuang urged vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly, to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
According to Chuang, two unvaccinated individuals had already died this winter due to complications related to influenza.
