Taipei: Taiwan and Texas have inked an economic cooperation agreement during an artificial intelligence innovation summit held in the U.S. state. The agreement was witnessed by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, who is visiting Texas to bolster economic ties between Taiwan and the United States.
According to Focus Taiwan, the agreement was signed by Richard Lee, chairman of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA), Glenn Hamer, president of the Texas Association of Business, and Ed Latson, CEO of Opportunity Austin. The agreement is designed to enhance bilateral investment ties between Taiwan and Texas.
Lin shared in a Facebook post that his visit aims not only to strengthen economic exchanges but also to showcase Taipei's readiness to collaborate with Washington to enhance mutual prosperity. He highlighted the upcoming ceremony by Taiwan-based GlobalWafers Co. on May 15, celebrating the completion of an advanced 12-inch silicon wafer facility in Texas.
The State of Texas Taiwan Office reports that Taiwanese investments in Texas span various industries, including petrochemical, electronics, communications, aerospace, biotech, financial, food, and retail sectors, with total investments exceeding US$10 billion.
