Taiwan recording package designer Xiao Qing-yang (???) will depart for the United States in early April to attend the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, slated for April 4 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the artist announced at a press conference Wednesday.
Xiao, 56, was nominated in November 2021 for the “Best Recording Package” award at the Grammy for his work on Hong Kong band Soul Of Ears’ (S.O.E) English language album “ZETA,” for which he was art director. It marks his sixth Grammy nomination.
Upon first look, the design of the album is clearly influenced by the static and vector images usually seen when television transmissions are suspended.
Upon further inspection, one finds that the material used to produce the album sleeve, which is filled with images of people protesting in the streets or related to the COVID-19 pandemic, causes the pages inside it to easily wrinkle.
If one tries to flatten out the creased pages, they do not return to their original state, which is intended as a metaphor for the fact that the past can not be undone, according to the designer.
