Taipei: Taiwanese bodybuilder Liu Ming-i won two gold medals Sunday at the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) World Bodybuilding Championships, where Taiwan placed 14th overall. Liu first captured gold in the men's fitness model 176 cm and under category, beating 10 other contestants, and then added another in the men's physique 170 cm and under division, topping a field of 16 athletes.
According to Focus Taiwan, Liu expressed his joy and gratitude on Instagram after the competition, referring to his achievements as an anniversary gift that reflected the hard work he and his wife have invested together. Liu, who is now 37, began his bodybuilding career at the age of 27, which is considered a late start in the sport. Despite this, he has adhered to an intensive, near-daily training regimen for several years.
Earlier this year, Liu also secured a gold medal in the men's physique 170 cm and under event at the IFBB Asian Championships. His performance was highly praised for his symmetry and stage presentation. Taiwan was represented by a four-member team at the world championships held in Saudi Arabia from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1. The top three overall team positions went to China, Iran, and South Korea.
