Taipei: Taiwan is expected to be hit by two cold weather fronts in the coming days, bringing occasional brief showers across some areas, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said on Tuesday. Brief, localized showers are expected along Keelung's coasts, Taiwan's eastern half, and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south as a cold front passes, combined with strengthening northeasterly winds starting on Wednesday, CWA forecaster Huang En-hung told CNA.

According to Focus Taiwan, scattered short-lived rain could also occur in Greater Taipei and mountainous areas in the north, while other areas are expected to be mostly cloudy to sunny, Huang said. Northeasterly winds are forecast to weaken Friday morning, bringing drier weather with mostly sunny to cloudy skies across the country through Sunday, Huang said.

Another cold front is expected to pass through Taiwan on Monday, with its effects lasting only about one day. At the same time, northeasterly winds are forecast to persist until Feb. 18, bringing brief, localized showers mainly to areas north of Taoyuan as well as Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung counties. As the effects of the two cold fronts are expected to be relatively weak, Huang said central and southern Taiwan will be largely unaffected by the wet weather, with mostly cloudy to sunny skies forecast.

Regarding temperatures, Huang said lows of 13-15 degrees Celsius are forecast for northern and central Taiwan from Wednesday to Thursday, while other areas could see lows of 16-18 degrees. From Friday to Sunday, the weather is expected to be slightly warmer, with lows of 14-16 degrees expected nationwide, the forecaster added.
