Taipei: Taiwan's government has announced a donation of US$700,000 (equivalent to NT$22 million) to two international NGOs actively engaged in providing humanitarian assistance within the Gaza Strip. This significant contribution was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Tuesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, MOFA detailed that US$500,000 of the total donation is allocated to the International Medical Corps (IMC). This funding follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last month, where Taiwan agreed to support a 10-month initiative by the Los Angeles-based IMC. The project aims to deliver essential medicines and equipment to Gaza, utilizing routes through Jordan and Egypt.
Additionally, MOFA disclosed that US$200,000 was donated at the beginning of October to the World Central Kitchen (WCK). This Washington-based NGO will use the funds to back its "Chefs for Gaza" initiative. The program involves setting up two large-scale field kitchens in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, with the capacity to provide 300,000 hot meals daily.
These recent donations are part of Taiwan's ongoing efforts to aid those in need in Gaza. Previously, the government had contributed US$500,000 to Mercy Corps Palestine, aimed at supplying food, clean water, clothing, and tents to affected individuals in the region.
