Donations of NT$930.36 million (US$32.45 million) have been collected in Taiwan in a fundraising campaign launched by the government to help displaced Ukrainians, the Relieve Disaster Foundation said Thursday.
As of 4:20 p.m. Thursday, a special account set up by the government had received NT$752.99 million, while donations on a crowd sourcing site had reached NT$177.37 million, according to the foundation, which was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to manage the donation drive.
The single biggest donation received on Thursday was an amount of NT$1 million, the foundation said.
In its mission statement, the foundation said the purpose of the fundraising drive is to aid Ukrainian refugees fleeing the Russian invasion of their country, and the effort is being overseen by the Central Bank, Financial Supervisory Commission, and Ministry of Finance.
The bank account was closed to donations on March 27, but the crowdsourcing site will remain open until midday on April 1, according to the foundation.
