Taipei: Taiwan's government is currently evaluating the potential recruitment of workers from Eswatini while emphasizing the enhancement of vocational training within the African nation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on Tuesday. At a routine press briefing, Yen Chia-liang, head of the Department of West Asian and African Affairs, stated that MOFA is collaborating with the Ministry of Labor's Workforce Development Agency (WDA) to bolster workforce training in Eswatini.

According to Focus Taiwan, a delegation from WDA is presently in Eswatini for a week-long visit to assess three vocational training centers and evaluate the broader training requirements in the country. Yen highlighted that the Eswatini government is concentrating on cultivating talent in sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, energy, and infrastructure.

These initiatives aim to enhance the employability of young individuals in Eswatini, enabling them to secure positions with Taiwanese enterprises set to operate in the forthcoming "Taiwan Industrial Innovation Park" project within the kingdom. Despite ongoing speculation about Taiwan sourcing workers from Eswatini, Yen clarified that the feasibility study on labor cooperation between the two nations remains in its preliminary stages.

MOFA has previously refuted online claims suggesting that Taiwan had agreed to recruit 1,000 workers from Eswatini annually, following President Lai Ching-te's recent visit to the kingdom. These rumors were dismissed as "a classic case of disinformation" and "without any factual basis."
