Jakarta--A Taiwan Excellence exhibition opened in Jakarta on Friday, with 130 awarded products from 58 Taiwanese businesses showcased as part of Taiwan's efforts to expand its presence in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) market.
The Taiwan Excellence products on display in the Indonesian capital include those carrying popular Taiwanese brand names, including Acer and Asus in the electronic device category, Kenda in the tire manufacturing sector, and Merida in the bicycle business. A fashion show at the venue drew local consumers with dresses made of Taiwan-produced batik cloth.
James Huang (???), chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), which was commissioned by Taiwan's Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) to organize the exhibition, told the press that all the exhibits are the finest state-of-the-art products from Taiwan's various industrial sectors.
He expressed hope that the show will allow Indonesian people and those from other ASEAN member-states to like Taiwan more and get to know Taiwanese products better.
He also said that the exhibition should help promote industrial cooperation between Taiwan and ASEAN and expand Taiwan's presence in the ASEAN market.
As the largest ASEAN member-state, with a population of over 250 million, Indonesia is the key target market in Taiwan's trade exploration in the ASEAN economic bloc, Huang said, adding that the promotion in Jakarta will help premium Taiwanese products secure buyers within the ASEAN market.
