Taiwan Issues Highest Travel Alert for India-Pakistan Border Amid Escalating Conflict

Taipei: The Taiwan government has raised its travel warning for the India-Pakistan border to the highest level, urging Taiwanese citizens to vacate the area immediately due to the intensifying conflict between the two nations.

According to Focus Taiwan, this red travel alert comes a year after the foreign ministry's Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) issued a "yellow" alert for India, advising caution and reconsideration of travel plans. Taiwanese citizens currently in India are advised to remain vigilant and avoid crowded public areas.

The ministry indicated that while the yellow alert persists for India, the India-Pakistan border warning has been elevated to red due to the ongoing conflict's persistence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) also noted the closure of several airports in India, emphasizing the need for citizens to leave the border region promptly.

Recent tensions between India and Pakistan have surged following a deadly attack in April, where 26 people, primarily Indian tourists, were killed by gunmen in a picturesque mountain area of Indian-administered Kashmir. India attributed the attack to Pakistan, a claim Pakistan has denied.

In a recent development, India conducted military strikes against Pakistan, claiming to have targeted militant groups and "terrorist infrastructure." Conversely, Pakistan reported civilian casualties, damage to mosques, and claimed to have downed five Indian Air Force jets.

With the issuance of the red travel alert, BOCA stated that Taiwanese citizens in India needing assistance can reach the Taiwan representative office in New Delhi via its emergency hotline +91-9810-642-658, or contact its branch offices in Chennai (+91-96000-99511) and Mumbai (+91-8850842243).

Family members of Taiwanese citizens in India can also seek urgent help by calling MOFA's toll-free number 0800-085-095. MOFA's travel alert system ranges from gray, the lowest level, to yellow, orange, and red, the highest level of alert.
