Kuala Lumpur, Musicians from Taiwan and Malaysia are teaming up again in a second edition of the Taiwan X Malaysia Musician Exchange later this month in Kuala Lumpur, the Ministry of Culture (MOC) said Tuesday.
The event, to be held Aug. 30, is an initiative of the MOC's Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development aimed at deepening cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Taiwanese artists invited to this year's performances include indie singersongwriter Enno Cheng rock band Elephant Gymand Chalaw Passiwali, who won Best Aboriginal Singer for his album Lao Lao Che at the 21st Golden Melody Awards in 2010.
Cheng, who made her debut album Neptune in July 2011, currently performs with a band called Chocolate Tiger but also continues to play the occasional solo gig.
Elephant Gym is a mathrock trio that was formed in Kaohsiung in 2012. Members include bassist Tif Chang, drummer Tu Chiachin and guitarist Tell Chang.
Math rock is an experimental rock style characterized by complex rhythms.
The band won eight nominations at the 5th Golden Indie Music Awards, one of Taiwan's two major music awards, in 2014.
Pastel Lite, the Malaysian pop band consisting of Eff Hakim and Mohd Faliq, will perform alongside their Taiwanese counterparts at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre.
The duo has been making waves in the local music scene since 2012, and is best known for their album, Balada, released in 2017.
The first Taiwan X Malaysia Musician Exchange was held in early September 2018.
