Phoenix:Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung arrived in the city to oversee the opening of Taiwan's new representative office, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Phoenix, Arizona, part of a three-day visit.
According to Focus Taiwan, during his visit, Lin is set to meet with Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. He will also witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Taiwan's National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association and the Arizona Commerce Authority.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced that Lin's visit follows his recent trip to Belize and Guatemala, and is aimed at enhancing economic and trade relations with the United States. The visit is accompanied by Ingrid Larson, Managing Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Washington.
MOFA also highlighted Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s (TSMC) investment in Arizona as a catalyst for increased Taiwanese business presence in the U.S., with the new Phoenix office marking a significant milestone in bilateral economic cooperation.
This office will be Taiwan's 14th representative office in the United States, joining others in cities like Washington, D.C., New York, and San Francisco. The decision to open the office was announced in July, aiming to bolster cooperation in various sectors including technology and supply-chain management.
