Taiwan is the 14th best destination for working vacations (workations) around the world and third in the Asia-Pacific, according to a recent list from Sydney-based accommodation metasearch site HotelsCombined.
HotelsCombined’s workation index ranked 111 nations and regions as working vacation destinations using 22 different factors divided into six different categories like health and safety conditions, local prices, social opportunities, remote working conditions, and weather.
Taiwan placed 14th worldwide with a score of 80 on a 100-point scale, which was also the third best in the Asia-Pacific region following Japan and Sri Lanka.
Taiwan scored particularly high in commodity prices, health, and safety, HotelsCombined said.
The top 10 countries for workations in the Asia-Pacific region also include Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with South Korea coming in 11th.
The world’s top 10 countries on the list are Portugal, Spain, Romania, Mauritius, Japan, Malta, Costa Rica, Panama, Czechia, and Germany.
According to HotelCombined, working during a vacation has opened up a wealth of opportunities for tourism and may help shape the future lifestyle of work and travel.
Based on its high ranking, Taiwan might possibly become one of the better places for international travelers or temporary residents in the post COVID-19 pandemic era, the hotel metasearch engine said in a statement.
Workations are gaining popularity as some travel industry operators have been offering workations for people who are tired of using their home as their office for remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to HotelCombined.
