Taiwan shares edge higher
Taipei--Shares in Taiwan edged higher on Friday, led by the electronics sector, dealers said.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange ended up 11.38 points, or 0.12 percent at 9,872, after moving between 9,845.84 and 9,897.04. Turnover totaled NT$98.43 billion (US$3.26 billion) during the trading session.
While the bellwether electronics sector rose 0.38 percent, the financial sector fell 0.25 percent.
Among large-cap electronics stocks, shares in contract chip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (???) increased 0.7 percent to close at NT$194.5, and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (??), the world's largest contract electronics maker, climbed 0.5 percent to finish at NT$98.8.
Smartphone camera lens supplier Largan Precision Co. (???) and integrated circuit packaging and testing firm Advanced Engineering Inc. (???) both moved 0.1 percent higher to end the day at NT$5,015 and NT$37.95, respectively.
In the financial sector, shares in Cathay Financial Holding Co. (???) dropped 0.3 percent to finish at NT$48.4, while Fubon Financial Holding Co. (???) gained 0.2 percent to close at NT$18.85.
Foreign institutional investors bought a net NT$3.28 billion worth of local shares on Friday.
