Taiwan shares edge lower
Taipei--Shares in Taiwan edged lower Monday, dragged down by financial stocks due to concerns over foreign exchange losses amid a strong Taiwan dollar, dealers said.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange closed down 26.21 points, or 0.26 percent, at 9,876.77, after moving between 9,859.53 and 9,917.85, on turnover of NT$86.18 billion (US$2.85 billion).
The bellwether electronics sector fell 0.09 percent, while the financial sector dropped 0.52 percent.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (???), the most heavily weighted stock on the local market, rose 0.26 percent to close at NT$193.
Smartphone camera lens supplier Largan Precision Co. (???) increased 0.1 percent to end at NT$4,795.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (??), the world's largest contract electronics maker, lost 0.11 percent to finish at NT$90.5.
In the financial sector, CTBC Financial Holding Co. (???) ended 0.79 percent lower at NT$18.85, while Fubon Financial Holding Co. (???) decreased 1.71 percent to close at NT$51.8, and Cathay Financial Holding Co. (???) slid 0.4 percent to finish at NT$50.
Foreign institutional investors bought a net NT$9.47 billion-worth of local shares on Monday.
