Taipei, March 30 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan edged lower on Thursday, moving in consolidation mode, but remained above the monthly moving average of 9,806 points, dealers said.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) closed down 8.1 points, or 0.08 percent, at 9,848.15, after moving between 9,878.62 and 9,836.33, on turnover of NT$89.06 billion (US$2.94 billion).
The market opened up 13.03 points at 9,869.28 and hovered around the five-day moving average of 9,872 before closing below that level.
The sub-index for the bellwether electronics sector ended 0.05 percent up, while the financial sub-index closed down 0.28 percent.
Large-cap electronics stocks entered correction territory, with Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (??), the world's largest contract electronics maker that assembles iPhones and iPads, losing 0.1 percent to close at NT$91.40. Largan Precision Co. (???), which supplies smartphone camera lenses to Apple, remained unchanged at NT$4,560.00.
Contract chip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (???), the most heavily weighted stock on Taiwan's market, also remained unchanged to end at NT$191.50.
In the financial sector, Fubon Financial Holding Co. (???) fell 1.09 percent to end at NT$49.95, and Cathay Financial Holding Co. (???) closed down 1.20 percent at NT$49.00.
CTBC Financial Holding Co. (???) remained unchanged, closing at NT$18.75.
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers of NT$2.196 billion-worth of shares for the 11th consecutive day on Thursday.
