Taipei--Shares in Taiwan closed higher on Thursday, led by large-cap electronics stocks.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange ended the day up 46.93 points, or 0.49 percent, at 9,590.18, after moving between 9,540.51 and 9,600.09 points, on turnover of NT$103.45 billion (US$3.33 billion).
Shares in the bellwether electronics sector rose 0.64 percent, while the optoelectronics sector climbed 0.84 percent.
Smartphone camera lens supplier Largan Precision Co. (???), the most expensive stock in Taiwan, gained 3.13 percent to close at a record high of NT$4,610.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC, ???), the most heavily weighted stock on the local market, ended the trading session 0.27 percent higher at NT$184, while shares in Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (??), the world's largest contract electronics maker and an assembler of iPhones and iPads for Apple, rose 1.6 percent to finish at NT$88.9.
TPK Holding Co. (??), a major supplier of touch panels for Apple Inc, soared 9.96 percent to end at NT$80.6.
