Taipei-Taiwanese table tennis players Lin Yun-ju (???) and Cheng I-ching (???) advanced to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles competition at the Seamaster 2019 ITTF World Tour Platinum German Open on Thursday.
The Taiwanese pair defeated top players Cedric Nuytinck and Lisa Lung of Belgium 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 10-4 to reach the quarterfinals.
The victory for the Taiwanese followed their mixed doubles titles at the Seamaster 2019 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Oman Open in March and the ITTF China Open in Shenzhen in June.
Lin, ranked world No. 10 in the men's listings, and Cheng, Taiwan's top female table tennis player, won a bronze medal at the ITTF Australian Open in July.
Later Thursday, Lin and his compatriot Liao Cheng-ting (???) also advanced to the men's doubles quarterfinals, after beating Austrians Robert Gardos and Daniel Habesohn 11-2, 11-4, 6-11, 10-7.
The Taiwanese duo finished as the runners-up in the men's doubles at the Czech Open in August.
On Thursday, Taiwan's Chuang Chih-yuan (???) and Chen Chien-an (???) also went through to the quarterfinals of the men's doubles, scoring a win over Robin Devos of Belgium and Benedek Olah of the Netherlands in three straight sets, 12-10, 11-7, 12-10.
The Taiwanese pair will come up against Lin and Liao in the quarterfinals.
In the women's doubles event, Taiwan's Chen Szu-yu (???), Cheng Hsien-tzu (???) secured a 3-1 victory against Barbora Balazova of Slovakia and Hana Matelova of the Czech Republic to reach the quarterfinals.
Taiwan's Chen Chien-an (???) and Chen Szu-yu (???) failed to reach the quarterfinals after they were defeated by Japanese Mizutani Jun and Ito Moka 6-11, 8-11, 11-8, 8-11.
The Platinum German Open, part of the ITTF World Tour, is being held in Bremen Oct. 8-13.
