Taipei, April 6 (CNA) A global cleanup event that includes Taiwan will be held to celebrate the annual Earth Day April 22, according to a statement released Friday by software developer Niantic Inc., which is best-known for developing the augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO.
The "Pokemon GO Earth Day Cleanup" events will take place in various locations around the world, with Pokemon GO players coming together to clean up the environment in their local areas.
Working in collaboration with Re-Think, a non-profit organization based in Taiwan, the local event will be held at the Tudigongkeng Bay area in New Taipei's Sanzhi District.
According to the press release, those who participate in the cleanups around the world will unlock unique in-game rewards.
If 1,500 people attend an event, the players will be able to unlock twice the number of Stardust when catching Ground-, Water- and Grass-type Pokemon.
Should the number of cleanup participants reach 3,000, the Stardust unlock will be three times higher than usual.
Besides the cleanup event, a financial contribution will also be made to Mission Blue, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the oceans, the company said.
The cleanup event will be held in Taiwan from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on April 22.
Other countries hosting the events include the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Spain and Italy.
