Taipei: Taiwan is set to participate in the Freedom 250 Global Illumination, a light show initiative celebrating the United States' 250th birthday on July 4, with Taipei 101 and other iconic buildings to be lit up in the colors of the U.S. flag -- red, white, and blue -- the de facto U.S. embassy in Taiwan announced Wednesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the initiative is coordinated by U.S. diplomatic missions worldwide and invites landmarks, monuments, and historic sites across the globe to shine in red, white, and blue in honor of 250 years of American ideals and enduring international partnerships, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said in a press release.
On the evening of July 4, five landmark sites across Taiwan will be illuminated in red, white, and blue: Taipei 101, the Baroque Garden at Taipei Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, the China Steel Corporation Headquarters Building, the Kaohsiung Music Center, and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying).
AIT added that its main office in Taipei's Neihu District will also be illuminated from June 29 to July 5.
