The Ministry of National Defense and the American Institute in Taiwan recently signed a six-year, NT$1.36 billion (US$45.03 million) deal for the maintenance of military helicopters in Tainan, according to a military source.
The deal, according to information published Aug. 19 on Taiwan’s Government e-Procurement System website, includes the purchase of equipment to maintain and service aircraft as well as components and parts.
The agreement runs from July 27, 2022 to Dec. 15, 2028, and the location stated in the contract is in Gueiren District, Tainan, where the Army Aviation Special Troops Command has a military base with several types of helicopters.
A source in Taiwan’s armed forces who requested anonymity told CNA the contract will service Taiwan’s OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Scout and CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift choppers fleets.
Other helicopters stationed at the Tainan base include attack AH-64E Apache and AH-1W Super Cobra choppers.
