Taipei: Taiwan national baseball team manager Tseng Hao-jiu announced the team's updated roster for the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic qualifiers in Taipei.
According to Focus Taiwan, Tseng revealed that after a management meeting, minor adjustments were made to Taiwan's roster. The announcement confirmed the return of Chen Chieh-hsien as the team's captain.
The current roster comprises 19 pitchers, with 10 based in Taiwan and nine playing internationally. Additionally, there are seven infielders and four outfielders, some of whom are also playing abroad. Tseng mentioned the addition of another catcher, bringing the total to four. He noted that the roster is subject to change, depending on the willingness of overseas teams to release their players.
Training for the qualifiers is scheduled to begin on February 3, with overseas players expected to return to Taiwan for team practices. Before the qualifiers commence on February 21, the team will engage in six to seven practice matches, two of which will be open to the public. The 2026 World Baseball Classic qualifiers will feature eight teams in a round-robin format from February 21 to March 6, with Taiwan competing in Pool A against South Africa, Spain, and Nicaragua. All Pool A games will take place at the Taipei Dome.
The winners and runners-up from each pool will qualify for the Classic, joining teams like Japan and the United States in the main tournament.
