Taiwan Weather Update: Heavy Rain Advisories Lifted for Five Municipalities

Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) canceled heavy rain advisories for five municipalities in Taiwan on Saturday, following a reduction in rainfall intensity that prompted the initial warnings earlier the same day. The advisories were lifted for Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung cities, as well as Chiayi and Pingtung counties.

According to Focus Taiwan, the rain was particularly intense in these areas early on Saturday, with Pingtung County experiencing extremely heavy rainfall. As the day progressed, the moisture levels decreased, leading to a reduction in rain chances across Taiwan. Most parts of the island can expect cloudy to sunny weather, although central and southern regions may still see brief showers or thundershowers.

Temperature forecasts for Saturday indicate a slight increase, with highs ranging from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius and lows between 25 to 27 degrees. In Taiwan’s offshore counties, Penghu County is expected to have temperatures between 26 and 30 degrees, Kinmen from 27 to 30 degrees, and Matsu could experience 26 to 30 degrees.

Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong stated that the drop in atmospheric moisture will lead to stable weather on Sunday, with cloudy and sunny conditions across the island. Only mountainous regions may encounter slight rain. Wu also warned that temperatures might reach as high as 38 degrees on Sunday.

Wu further predicted that Taiwan will experience sunny weather with some cloudiness on Monday, with chances of localized showers or thundershowers in mountainous areas. He forecasted a return of heavier rain between Tuesday and Wednesday due to increased moisture, potentially resulting in brief showers or thundershowers.

From Thursday to the following Monday, Taiwan is expected to have hot temperatures and sunny to cloudy weather, with a high chance of brief showers and thundershowers in mountainous areas after noon. Wu also mentioned that there are no current forecasts of significant storms, such as Tropical Storm Wutip, or rain fronts affecting Taiwan in the next 10 days.
