Taipei: A continental cold air mass that brought chilly conditions to Taiwan is expected to ease, leading to a gradual rebound in temperatures starting Monday, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA).According to Focus Taiwan, northern Taiwan and Yilan County in the northeast experienced cold conditions on Sunday due to the cold air mass, while other regions saw lower temperatures primarily at night. The CWA warned that temperatures could drop below 10 degrees Celsius from Sunday night into early Monday in areas north of Kaohsiung, northeastern Taiwan, and the outlying Kinmen islands. Morning lows on Sunday ranged between 11 and 13 degrees in western Taiwan and Yilan, with other regions seeing around 15 degrees. The CWA forecasted daytime highs on Sunday to be 15 to 17 degrees in northern Taiwan and Yilan, 18 to 19 degrees in eastern Taiwan, and 21 to 23 degrees in central and southern Taiwan. The agency highlighted the ongoing large temperature differences between day and night, especially in western Taiwan. Early Sunday, the lowest temperature recorded in low-lying areas was 8.3 degrees in Zhuqi Township in Chiayi County, followed by 8.4 degrees in Nanxi District in Tainan, and 8.7 degrees in Neimen District in Kaohsiung.Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong noted that the latest European weather model suggests mostly sunny and stable conditions on Sunday, with isolated brief showers possible in eastern Taiwan. He also mentioned that overnight lows might still fall below 9 degrees in certain areas. The CWA indicated that the cold air mass is expected to weaken during the daytime on Monday, allowing for a rise in temperatures across the island. For Monday, the CWA forecasted early morning lows of 12 to 14 degrees in most parts of Taiwan. Daytime highs are projected to reach 21 to 24 degrees in western Taiwan, while eastern Taiwan and Penghu are anticipated to see highs of 18 to 20 degrees.
