Taipei: President Lai Ching-te emphasized Taiwan's collaboration with its Pacific allies during a cultural gala, underscoring the shared democratic values that unite the nations across the Pacific Ocean. The event, held in Taipei and jointly organized by the Pacific Taiwan Ambassadors Group (PTAG) comprising the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and Palau, highlighted the enduring ties facilitated by the ocean.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lai thanked the diplomatic representatives for their role in making the Pacific Cultural Gala possible. He noted that Taiwan and its Pacific partners are united by maritime heritage and the principles of freedom and democracy. "The Pacific has never been a barrier. It has always been the greatest bridge that connects us," Lai stated, emphasizing the ocean's role as a unifying force.

Lai recalled his visits to the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and Palau shortly after assuming office in May 2024. During these visits, he observed the cooperative efforts between Taiwan and its allies in sectors such as education, healthcare, telecommunications, and maritime rescue operations. He committed to strengthening these partnerships further.

Marshall Islands Ambassador Anjanette Kattil, also the dean of the PTAG, highlighted the deep Austronesian roots and enduring friendships between the Pacific nations and Taiwan. She reiterated the allies' support for Taiwan's inclusion in the international community and commended Taiwan's contributions to global development, humanitarian assistance, public health, technological innovation, and regional prosperity.

Kattil addressed climate change as the most significant challenge for Pacific peoples, pointing to rising sea levels and severe weather events as pressing issues. She called for enhanced international cooperation to tackle these challenges and affirmed the commitment of the three Pacific nations to work with Taiwan towards a free, resilient, and prosperous future.
