Taipei, Taiwan's badminton ace Chou Tien-chen was knocked out of the semifinals of the men's singles at the Badminton Asia Championships in China on Saturday.
Chou, ranked fifth in the world, battled against World No. 2 Shi Yuqi of China but lost in two straight games 20-22, 18-21 in a match that lasted just 46 minutes.
It was Chou's fifth loss against Shi in their seven encounters to date.
Shi will next face Kento Momota of Japan in a battle for the men's singles title on Sunday.
The 2019 Badminton Asia Championships, which concludes on April 28 in Wuhan, carries a purse of US$400,000.
