Taipei: Taiwan's Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi is currently on a six-day visit to Paraguay, where he is examining several Taiwan-funded projects and engaging in discussions with Paraguayan officials on potential future collaborations.According to Focus Taiwan, Chen arrived in Paraguay, Taiwan's only diplomatic ally in South America, on Sunday. During his visit, he has met with Paraguayan Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez and Vice Foreign Minister Víctor Verdún, among other officials. In a meeting with Ramírez, both parties reaffirmed the stability and strength of their bilateral ties and discussed upcoming cooperative projects, as stated in a news release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Thursday.On Monday, Chen, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Public Works Emiliano Fernández, inspected an electric bus project that Taiwan has supported. The project involves 30 electric buses donated as part of a 2024 bilateral cooperation program. This initiative aims to modernize public transportation in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. The fleet was delivered by Taiwan in 2025, and the buses have been operational since March.Before concluding his visit on Friday, Chen is scheduled to inspect several other projects, including the Health Information System, the Taiwan-Paraguay Smart Technology Park, the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University, and the site designated for a sovereign AI computing center to be constructed in the country, as reported by MOFA.
