Taiwanese professional golfer Hsu Wei-ling (???) recorded three birdies and a bogey to end with a 2-under par 70, tied in 19th place in the first round of the 2022 HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore on Thursday.
The 27-year-old Hsu pocketed the birdies at the third, fifth, and eighth holes, while making the bogey at the 14th hole on The Tanjong course at Sentosa Golf Club, which is hosting the 14th edition of the HSBC Women’s World Championship from March 3-6.
Min Lee (??), 26, the other Taiwanese in the tournament, closed the first day tied at 29th, after hitting three birdies and two bogies to finish with a 1-under par 71.
The leader board on the first day was headed by 22-year-old Patty Tavatanakit of Thailand with a 5-under par 67.
Dubbed as ‘Asia’s Major’, the HSBC Women’s World Championship, which carries a total purse of US$1.7 million, boasts one of the strongest fields in women’s golf outside the five Major Championships
The HSBC Women’s World Championship is Hsu and Lee’s first tournament on the LPGA tour this year.
Hsu captured her first win on the LPGA Tour at the Pure Silk Championship last year, held May 20-23, 2021, in Williamsburg, Virginia, and recorded two additional top-10 finishes during the season.
She also represented Taiwan in the Tokyo Olympics last year and later won the title at the Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open, held Dec. 22-24, 2021 in New Taipei. She finished in equal sixth place with Jessica Peng (??) and Babe Liu (??) at the Hitachi Ladies Classic, held Jan. 7-9 in Taoyuan.
Meanwhile, Lee recorded a season-best runner-up finish last season at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship, held June 10-13, 2021, in Daly City, California, before representing Taiwan at the Tokyo Olympics.
