Bali:Taiwan's Rita Chou emerged victorious at the Women's 9-Ball World Championship in Bali, Indonesia, on Sunday, securing her second title in the competition.
According to Focus Taiwan, Chou, aged 39, defeated defending champion Seo Seoa of South Korea in a match that ended three sets to one (4-1, 1-4, 4-1, 4-1), earning her US$55,000 in prize money.
The match saw Chou and Seo initially split the opening two sets. Chou then took control of the third set by winning the first three racks. Although Seo pulled one back after a scratch on Chou's break, Chou capitalized on a failed safety by Seo to clear the table and win the set. In the final set, Chou overcame a 1-0 deficit, winning four consecutive racks following Seo's errors, to clinch the championship.
Chou's path to the final included straight-set victories over China's Huang Qingning in the quarterfinals and Japan's Chihiro Kawahara in the semifinals. Seo, 23, reached the final after eliminating Taiwanese players Chou Chia-chia, Chiang Shui-ching, and Wei Tzu-chien in earlier rounds.
With this victory, Chou becomes the second Taiwanese player to win two world titles in the women's 9-ball competition, following in the footsteps of Liu Hsin-mei, who captured the title in 1999 and 2002. Chou previously won her first title in 2023, defeating Seo in the semifinals and Britain's Allison Fisher in the final.
The tournament, held from September 28 to October 4, featured 64 players, as noted by the organizers.
