Taipei-Taiwanese tennis player Chan Yung-jan (???) and her new partner Andrea Hlavackova from the Czech Republic were an inch from winning their maiden championship trophy together this year, after losing to their opponents in the women's doubles finals at the 2018 Sydney International on Friday.
Top-seeded Chan and Hlavackova, who teamed up as doubles partners at the start of the new season, lost 3-6, 1-6 to Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Xu Yifan of China.
Last week, the Taiwanese-Czech duo's chance of winning the trophy also came to a halt after they succumbed to Andreja Klepac of Slovenia and Maria Sanchez of Spain 6-7, 6-3, 9-11 in the women's doubles semifinals in Brisbane.
On Friday, the third-seeded team of Dabrowski and Xu won their first title this season and third title together overall, after triumphs at the Miami Open and the Connecticut Open in 2017.
The Sydney International, part of the Australian Open Series tournaments prior to the first Grand Slam of the year, is being held from Jan. 7-13.
