Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced around noon on Friday that the tsunami threat in the Pacific region had been lifted. This update came two hours after an alert was issued following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.
According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA first released a tsunami advisory at 9:56 a.m. after receiving notification from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) regarding the earthquake in Mindanao, which occurred at 9:44 a.m. The PTWC had initially assessed the earthquake as a potential tsunami threat to the Pacific region.
At 12:01 p.m., based on the PTWC’s latest information, the CWA issued a second advisory confirming that the tsunami threat had been lifted, ensuring safety for the Pacific region.
