Taipei: Taiwan's women's table tennis team had to settle for bronze at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Summer World University Games Saturday, following a 3-0 semifinal loss to China.
According to Focus Taiwan, Taiwan's team, consisting of Chien Tung-chuan, Cheng Pu-syuan, Huang Yu-Chieh, and Tsai Yun-en, secured a medal position after a decisive victory against India in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal match, Chien faced Wang Xiaotong and lost in straight sets, 6-11, 5-11, 6-11. Cheng followed with another defeat, leaving Taiwan in a 0-2 deficit.
In the third match, Huang initially struggled, losing the first two games 7-11 and 5-11. However, she fought back to win the next two games 12-10 and 11-6, leveling the score. Despite her efforts, Huang was unable to maintain momentum in the final game, losing 4-11 and confirming Taiwan's bronze medal finish. This result mirrored their performance at the postponed 2021 Summer World University Games, where they also secured a bronze medal in Chengdu, China.
Additionally, Taiwan's rhythmic gymnastics team, featuring Chen Yung-chi, Lu Pei-chi, Huang Yun-jen, Ju Jieh-chi, Pan Yu-kuan, and Chuang Yi-an, achieved a bronze medal in the 3 balls and 2 hoops event, adding to Taiwan's overall medal tally at the games.
