Bangkok:Thepthai Senpong has called on Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to prioritize the no-confidence motion over other commitments, suggesting that a scheduled cabinet meeting in Udon Thani could be postponed.
According to Thai News Agency, Thepthai, a political observer and former politician, expressed his views on Facebook, emphasizing the importance of the no-confidence motion as a democratic tool for scrutinizing the executive branch. He urged Anutin not to use other commitments as reasons to evade the debate.
The opposition coalition has proposed a five-day debate on the no-confidence motion against 18 ministers, while the government insists on three days, resulting in a standoff. Anutin has cited commitments such as the Udon Thani cabinet meeting and the World Horticultural Expo opening ceremony as reasons for limiting debate time, suggesting a possible 3 to 4-day debate window.
Thepthai argued that events like the cabinet meeting could be postponed, highlighting that similar meetings have been delayed before. He suggested delegating the World Expo opening to the Minister of Agriculture, as Anutin is not indispensable for the event. While understanding Anutin's need to attend ASEAN and APEC meetings, Thepthai criticized the use of royal ceremony rehearsals as excuses, urging Anutin to address the no-confidence motion responsibly.
