Taipei--Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) said Sunday that information circulating on the Internet about fare discounts for citizens between the ages of 60 and 65 was fake news since the limited time offer had already expired.
"The preferential rate for seniors (60-65 years old) was offered from Oct. 8, 2013 to June 25, 2015," the high speed rail company said in a statement.
However, a story has been spreading recently on social media, including LINE, claiming that THSR passengers between the ages of 60 and 65 can obtain a 25 percent discount on tickets, it noted.
The story has been creating confusion among passengers and other members of the public, THSRC said, urging netizens not to forward the "fake story."
The company said it currently offers about 10 different types of preferential rates, but a 25 percent discount for 60-65-year-olds was not among them.
It said accurate information on the details of such offers can be obtained on its official website at http://www.thsrc.com.tw/tw/SiteMap/#N
