Taipei: Tropical Storm Nakri formed on Wednesday, but current projections show that it is unlikely to directly impact Taiwan, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). As of 2 p.m., Nakri was located in waters 1,830 kilometers east-southeast of Taipei, moving northwest at 27 km per hour (kph).

According to Focus Taiwan, with a radius of 80 km, the storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph, with gusts reaching up to 90 kph, CWA data showed. The storm is expected to move northwest into waters south of Japan, before heading northeast, thus posing little threat to Taiwan, according to CWA projections.

Meanwhile, several local forecasters on Tuesday said a weather front bringing cooler weather is expected to arrive in Taiwan in the middle or end of next week. According to CWA forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan, a weather system will move across Taiwan from north to south Oct. 17-18 that will push daily high temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the private forecasting company Weather Risk predicted that the system will affect Taiwan from Oct. 15 through Oct. 18 or 19, bringing the year’s first hint of autumn weather.
