Taipei, The chances of Tropical Storm Danas making landfall in Taiwan have lessened as it has veered east from its previous path, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Wednesday.
As of 6 p.m., the weather system was located 370 kilometers eastsoutheast of Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving in a northnorthwesterly direction at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour, the CWB said.
With a radius of 150 km, it was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gusts of 90 kph, according to the bureau.
Danas is veering away from Taiwan as it has been drawn and integrated with a convection cloud system to the east, forecasters explained.
The integration could make Danas stronger, but also take it farther away from Taiwan, the bureau said.
However, there is another weather system separate from Danas, which is likely to develop into a tropical depression between late Wednesday and Thursday and could begin to affect Taiwan the following day, according to the CWB. By Lee HsinYin)
