Tsai meets with Guatemalan defense minister
President Tsai Ing-wen has met with Guatemala's defense minister, Williams Mansilla, in Taipei.
Guatemala is one of Taiwan's Central American allies and was one of the countries Tsai visited during her tour of the region earlier in the year.
At their meeting on Tuesday, Tsai thanked Mansilla for his support of bilateral military exchanges with Taiwan since he took up his position in 2015.
Tsai also hailed the longstanding friendship between Taiwan and Guatemala.
"Taiwan and Guatemala have had longstanding exchanges and cooperation in areas including trade, humanitarian aid, social welfare, basic infrastructure, academia, and medicine. In defense matters, especially in exchanges between military academies, Taiwan and Guatemala have always had very close cooperation. We hope that with the defense minister's firm support and the continued cooperation between our two countries, our partnership will be long-lasting," Tsai said.
Once again, that was President Tsai Ing-wen speaking on Tuesday.
