TSMC sets record monthly high in January sales

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s largest semiconductor foundry, set a single-month sales record of NT$172.18 billion (US$6.19 billion) in January, the company reported Thursday.

The figure marked a month-on-month increase of 10.8 percent and 35.8 percent year-on-year growth, TSMC said, noting that the company has posted record monthly sales for two consecutive months, which it attributed to strong market demand for high performance computing and automotive electronics.

TSMC forecast robust sales in the first quarter, predicting a new quarterly sales record of US$16.6 billion to US$17.2 billion, a 7.4 percent increase from the fourth quarter of 2021.

Based on its upbeat outlook for high performance computing, automotive electronics, Internet of Things and smartphone sales, TSMC said it expects sales to grow by 25-29 percent in U.S. dollar terms in 2022, higher than the average 20 percent increase forecast for the semiconductor foundry industry.
