Taipei-The latest Fun Taiwan series on the Travel & Living Channel (TLC) will feature individuals who have never traveled abroad before and applied on the program's website to visit Taiwan. The offer is part of a collaborative promotional effort with the Tourism Bureau to tap into a new market.
"Taiwan has a great variety of tourist attractions," said Tourism Bureau Director-General Chou Yung-hui (???) at a press conference on Tuesday. "The program has picked the best destinations to tailor the trips to newbie travelers."
The series, dubbed "Fun Taiwan First Timer," has chosen a mixture of 10 individuals and teams out of 250 applicants from 30 countries to experience some of the most popular tourist spots in Taiwan and accommodates the dietary needs of Muslim visitors with Halal food. Each successful applicant/team will receive a travel allowance of NT$100,000 for the duration of their stay in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, the "first-timer casting" ranges from a Philippine diver to an American mixed martial arts fighter and a Brazilian tutor.
Jon Goulet, a Canadian married to a Taiwanese woman, also shared his travel experience in Taiwan at the program launch.
Enjoying outdoor activities such as ice climbing and trekking, Goulet told CNA that he is amazed by the biodiversity in Taiwan.
There are numerous shades of green in Taiwan in the mountains, while back home he can only find variations of colors in rocks, Goulet said, after he was filmed waterfall climbing in central Taiwan's Nantou County.
"Here, it's jungle," he said. "Like really thick forests and scary-looking spiders."
Goulet also attended a Paiwan tribe-style indigenous wedding with his wife, and said he was so moved by the experience he got a commemorative tattoo.
The new season of Fun Taiwan will be hosted for the first time by Patty Lee (???) and Sharon Huang (???) instead of Janet Hsieh (???), who recently had a baby and will be aired in early 2018.
