Two more Thai suspects listed in Taoyuan murder: prosecutors

Two more Thai nationals have been listed as suspects in the alleged murder of a Thai couple whose bodies were found in a car trunk in Taoyuan earlier this month, local prosecutors said Sunday.

The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office said it had passed information about the two suspects, who left Taiwan on June 11, to its counterparts in Thailand for use in a joint investigation.

Thai police already arrested an initial suspect who had fled to Thailand, a Thai national named Wang Ta-hsien (???), on June 17 after he surrendered himself to the authorities in the Southeast Asian country.

According to police in Taiwan, Wang flew back to Thailand on June 9 after he killed the Thai couple, whose bodies were found in the trunk of a car parked at a high-speed rail station on June 10.

Police said that both the victims and Wang were members of Thailand's ethnic-Chinese community and were acquaintances prior to coming to Taiwan.

Prosecutors said they are also working with the Thai authorities to bring Wang back to Taiwan to face prosecution, despite Royal Thai Police Commissioner Suwat Jangyodsuk ruling out the possibility of extradition on Friday.

While Taiwan currently does not have an official extradition treaty with Thailand, Taiwanese officials have said that mutual legal cooperation can still be initiated on a case-by-case basis, as has happened in the past.
